God Rolls - Witch Queen, Horizon, Elden Ring: The Monster Week

Welcome back to God Rolls where we have finally arrived at Hell Week. Well, Hell Week for me, guy meant to cover everything for his job, Heaven Week for gamers, as three monster, amazing games just launched within seven days of each other. Horizon Forbidden West, progressing the open world concept forward in meaningful ways, Destiny 2’s Witch Queen, its best expansion ever, and Elden Ring, one of the best reviewed games of the last decade. They’re all here, they’re all amazing.

What I’m Playing: I was absolutely in love with the 35 or so hours I spent with Horizon, but I know it’s going to be double that to finish. I had to stop for Witch Queen which I now cannot stop playing after two legendary campaign runs and a lot of grinding. I am skipping Elden Ring for now as it’s just not my genre and I physically do not have time.

What I’m Watching: As you might expect, I put pretty much all TV shows on hold with all these game releases. Exceptions are starting to watch Abbott Elementary with my wife, and the Euphoria finale tonight. I realized I never even watched the Attack on Titan finale last week.

Now, the recap:

Destiny

Ten Things I Wish I Knew When I Started ‘Destiny 2: The Witch Queen’ - My big advice article for starting out with Witch Queen, given that it can be fairly overwhelming.

An Urgent ‘Destiny 2’ Warning Before You Finish The Legendary Witch Queen Campaign - In addition to those ten, this is one I figured out too late on my Titan, but in time for my Hunter and Warlock runs.

Destiny 2’s Witch Queen Weapon Crafting Has Some Big Early Problems - While I am glad to see crafting arrive in Destiny, it’s clear it has some economy and RNG problems already.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen Review - Yes, It’s Better Than The Taken King - This is my review that Bungie is now quoting for ads, hah. I think it’s true!

Other Games

Where ‘Elden Ring’ Lands In The Top 20 Best Reviewed Games Of All Time - Elden Ring is quite literally one of the best reviewed games ever made according to Metacritic. Pretty wild.

Report: ‘Call Of Duty’ Is Skipping 2023, The First Time In 17 Years - This move comes not as a result of the Microsoft buy, but because of Vanguard doing badly.

Why I Love ‘Horizon Forbidden West’ After Growing Sick Of Open World Games - I truly love this game in ways I was not expecting. I miss it.

Digital Foundry Reaches A Verdict On ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ PS5 Vs. Xbox Series X - As expected, Cyberpunk 2077 released its next-gen update and it’s totally drowned out by everything else this week immediately.

These were my day one first impressions of the Witch Queen:

This is a story spoiler discussion where I go into the massive reveals:

This is the build I used for my Titan legendary campaign run. Glaives OP:

And finally, this is the corgi who accompanied me the whole time:

See you out there.
